Had a serious accident in July 2019 and broke my hip socket and had emergency surgery to plate and pin my hip. I was in a wheelchair for 2 months and very slow recovery to try and mend and save the existing hip. Fast forward 12 months, I was in excruciating pain, barely able to walk, sleep and my quality of life was seriously affected. We were in the middle of lockdown and was told I needed a hip replacement, but unfortunately no routine hip replacements were being performed at present under the NHS. I was unsure which surgeon to pick at the BMI as I had no previous knowledge of the surgeons, but I looked at the reviews for Mr Westerman and booked my initial consultation with him. I went with my gut instinct after the consultation and booked my surgery immediately for my hip replacement which was carried out on 15th October 2020, All the reviews about the surgery process and hospital stay is spot on. As others have said, do all your exercises and physio as advised and your recovery will be a lot smoother and quicker. The hip replacement has been life changing, and I would 100% recommend Mr Westerman. I cannot thank him enough and at 51 I am back to my very active lifestyle and free from pain. I have never written a review for anything before, but felt it important to leave a review as this was how I picked Mr Westerman for my hip replacement and relied on the other reviews that had been provided. They were all very accurate and informative for anyone needing a hip replacement, Mr Westerman is definitely skilful and passionate about his work. I would highly recommend him.

I first saw Mr Westerman at the beginning of Feb 2001 to discuss the results of an X-ray I had done He told me I had osteoarthritis in my left hip (the pain at that time was excruciating) and the way forward would be to have a total left hip replacement. Mr Westerman explained in great detail to me the whole procedure. I was extremely anxious about the operation but Mr Westerman and his team put my fears and concerns and mind at rest. I had my operation on 22nd March 2001 at the BMI Meriden hospital and stayed in hospital for 2 nights. I cannot thank Mr Westerman and the whole team enough. Will be back on the 17th May to have a total right hip replacement .

Mr Westerman carried out a total hip replacement on my left hip on the 1st July 2020. From my initial consultation, diagnosis, operation and aftercare Mr Westerman has been absolutely amazing. My surgery went extremely well, as did my recovery - under the guidance of Mr W and the Physio staff at the BMI Meriden. A few things you may wish to know ; The surgery is a pretty quick operation, around 90 mins. The Physio team and Mr W will want you up and walking within hours of surgery, this is a must to aid your recovery (physically and mentally - its a great first milestone) You will be awake for the surgery, this sounds weird, but trust me when I say this, it really does add to your mental wellbeing, and starts the healing process from minute one. You can choose to be relatively conscious or be a bit more sedated. I chose to be as awake as possible, and was able to speak freely to the operating team throughput, which I feel helped massively in the whole process of recovery. Recovery and Physio; Do EXACTLY what they tell you for your recovery and physio, if you don't do the exercise and put the effort in, you will take much longer to recover, and get your eg strength back. I followed the programme to the letter, and was riding my static bike within ten weeks doing 10k a day on it. You will be on crutches for a week or so, maybe a bit longer, keep moving and exercising that leg. I cant recommend Richard Westerman highly enough, the surgery has changed my life, I was extremely limited to what I could do, and now I am pain free, and my mobility is as good as new.
